Jonathon Cooper Reinstated Eligible for Broncos’ Next Game

The Denver Broncos will have outside linebacker Jonathon Cooper available for their Week 7 game against the Arizona Cardinals. NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell has removed Cooper from the commissioner’s exempt list, where he has been since August 30 due to legal issues involving domestic violence charges. With this change, Cooper can now participate in practice and play in games.

Cooper’s legal troubles began in June when he was arrested twice in one week on charges related to domestic violence. Despite being eligible to return to the field, the NFL’s review of his case continues, and he could still face league discipline under the personal conduct policy. He has court dates scheduled in February and March to address these charges.

As Cooper integrates back into the team, the Broncos have received a one-week roster exemption for him, allowing extra time before having to add him officially to the 53-man roster. This comes after he was able to attend team meetings and engage in conditioning work while on the exempt list. Broncos coach Sean Payton has deferred to the NFL’s judgment regarding Cooper’s situation, emphasizing adherence to both the league’s and the Broncos’ guidelines.
